About Hope for Haiti
Hope for Haiti was started by JoAnne Kuehner, who wanted to make a difference in the lives of the people of Haiti. She began the nonprofit organization by focusing on education then later partnered with Dr. Keith Hussey and expanded the organization to include nutrition and healthcare as well. The organization partners with people in Haiti who are personally overseeing the programs. This method ensures that all funds being donated are being used for programs in Haiti that will make a better future for the children.
Programs in Haiti
The organization has several programs that make a difference for the people of Haiti through their efforts. The programs include:
Clean Water Initiative
Clean Water Initiative's goal is to provide clean drinking water to the citizens of Haiti. Clean water is a necessity for people all over the world and Haiti is no exception. The organization has become aware of the solar powered UV water purification that can provide 500 gallons of clean water daily. This system can be installed in both rural and urban areas of Haiti. The program's goal is to provide clean drinking water to all people in Haiti in the amount of 2.5 million gallons a year.
Education Program
Haiti has one of the poorest education systems in the world. Only half of the population can read or write and most do not have a basic education. Since there is a lack of government support for education programs so the organization has assisted in providing private education by sponsoring children to attend school. The charity currently provide 12,000 children with education and have both schools and teachers that assist in these efforts.
Emergency Relief
Response to emergencies is critical. The organization has set up short-term response for emergency situations by creating relief supply buckets that contain items such as blankets, sanitation kits, candles, water purifying tablets and dry meals. The organization responds to situations such as:
- Floods
- Fires
- Famine
- Acts of Nature
- Politics
The organization works closely with medical supply centers to provide immediate help through airlifts. This allows access to areas not able to be reached by roads. This program's goal is to create 1,000 emergency relief buckets for when the situation arises.
Nutrition and Healthcare
The nutrition and healthcare programs goals are to provide quality healthcare to the people of Haiti and to cure malnutrition in those who are age five and younger. Children are often the ones who are lacking in these areas so the organization focuses on this area to ensure that the children are not being overlooked. This remains a top priority and a major area of concern that needs much attention.

There are also special programs that fund short term projects that last for a one-year period. These include projects such as the construction of a school, renovating a nursing home or renovating classrooms.

- $25 will fund full blood work include testing for Malaria, HIV, and TB
